In less than a month, we will be sending our first short-term team to Malaysia! A team of 10 will leave from New Orleans and arrive after nearly two full days of travel. Once in Malaysia, the team will meet with our partner on the ground. The team will focus on urban evangelism and social justice ministries during their week in Malaysia.
Malaysia is home to a rich diversity of people groups and cultures. The Malay people comprise about half of the population of Malaysia, while a strong influence from Chinese and Indigenous ethnic groups remain in tact. Malaysia’s constitution states Islam as the national religion, which makes it a country very open and friendly towards other Muslim nations. Approximately 150,000 refugees and asylum seekers reside in Malaysia, most from other Islamic countries. Refugees often arrive with the intent to stay only for the duration of their 90-day visa, but end up remaining in the country for much longer. Our team hopes to serve some of these refugees and share the Gospel with them.
Each day in Malaysia, our team will divide into small groups of two or three people to be sent out to popular tourist destinations. Our partner on the ground will designate areas for our team. Each group will engage with the people in the hopes of sharing the Gospel with them. The vast majority of people in Malaysia have never heard the Good News before.
Pray for our partners on the ground and for connections to be made in Malaysia. Lift up our team and pray for them to be flexible and serve with humble hearts. Pray that we would live our lives at home and abroad by Mark 16:15 and “Go into all the world and preach the Gospel to all creation.”
